The Owen Money Theatre Company

The Owen Money Theatre Company Ltd was created in 2000 to produce high quality, dynamic productions of family orientated Pantomimes during the winter between November and March with a policy of promoting Welsh based and talented newcomers, supported by professional actors. Since 2000 the company has a proven background in successful pantomime playing at major venues in Wales: Theatre Brycheiniog Brecon; The Coliseum Aberdare; Blackwood Miners Institute; The Lyric Carmarthen; Princess Royal Port Talbot; Parc & Dare Theatre Treorchy; Congress Theatre Cwmbran; the Muni Arts Centre, Pontypridd, the Grand Theatre, Swansea and the Pavilion, Porthcawl.

This years offering from the Owen Money Theatre Company "Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs", brings affordable quality pantomime to all and sundry. Evergreen Welsh superstar performer Mike Doyle moves this very lively, energetic, bright and hysterically funny pantomime along at a slick fast pace. He certainly knows what it takes to succeed in panto, and his moving and show stopping rendition of “You Raise Me Up” is certainly a highlight, and proves that vocally Mike is up there with the best that Wales has ever produced. On top of this he interacts with the other cast members effortlessly and unselfishly, especially with Nurse Tydfil played by Lloyd Davies – who as the over 40's will remember was one half of the comedy duo, Rosser and Davies, who famously won the live final of Opportunity Knocks in 1987. Lloyd's performance is a classic Dame role, which I’m sure, will endure over the coming years if he chooses to take that path. Amy coombs is delightful as Snow White, and Nikki Lang a credible Queen Lucretia, with her real life son Travis Monks-Landeg playing the cheeky scene stealing Dwarf, Jolly. Other notable performances come from Deiniol Wyn-Rees as Oddjob, Calum Small as Pops and Lewis Cook as the Prince. The show's director Richard Tunley has achieved a marvellous mix of comedy, music and dance, which thrilled a packed Princess Royal Theatre audience – that included local singer Bonnie Tyler and the actress Ruth Madoc - and left everyone wanting to be in “Mike's Gang”. The show moves on to Treorchy and then Cwmbran and finishes on 22nd February. Oh yes it does! Princess Royal theatre 28/01/2009

A spell at Decca Records followed where he was fortunate to work with many artists of note - Tom Jones, the Moody Blues, Al Green and the Chi-Lites before moving on to Chrysalis Records during the seventies where he worked with Jethro Tull, Leo Sayer and last but not least, Blondie.

NIGEL HART - Musical Director

Nigel Hart is one of the busiest musicians on the Welsh entertainment scene. Based in South Wales, he provides services to the entertainment industry across the U.K. and beyond. He is equally at home in the roles of pianist, composer, arranger and musical director.

Nigel’s keyboard skills has seen him working with Max Boyce, the Supremes, Phantom of the Opera tour, The Rat Pack tour and BBC Radio 2 Big Band star Jeff Hooper. He was the Musical Director and arranger for Jeff Hooper’s Legends of Vegas tour in 2002 together with working on Paul Child’s theatre shows Made in Wales in the same role. Nigel spent 3 years as Musical Director and accompanist on BBC Radio Wales’ Thursday Afternoon Live and has completed five series as Musical Director and music arranger of Owen Money’s popular talent show Just up your Street together with an enormous amount of other television work on National channels.    He is a director of Shabbey Road recording studios in Caerphilly; a professional digital studio which opened in June 1999. The studio produced the new Jeff Hooper Album As Long As I’m Singing which has been featured on Radio 2. One of the studio’s earliest projects – acclaimed Abba tribute band Abbamania – culminated in Nigel’s debut on the West End as piano-playing band-member “Benny”!  Nigel is a veteran of 19 pantomime productions but swears that they don’t’ come any better or more enjoyable than with Owen and the cast.  He has been the OMTC musical director of choice for productions for several years

Aladdin
2009
Jack and the Beanstalk
2009/10

The magic of Christmas and the charm of old Peking meets a bit of Valleys cheekiness in an OMTC production of the classic panto Aladdin. Starring Owen Money as Wishee Washee the production has all the traditional elements that you all know and love with audience participation, terrible jokes plus a generous helping of slapstick comedy. Aladdin promises fun, magic, music and mayhem in a show that will delight family audiences.

Cast: Owen Money leads as Wishee Washee with Sammi Broad (Aladdin); Lloyd Davies ( Widow Twankey); Sule Rimi, (Genie); Calum Small (Ping Pong the policeman); Ian Lilley (Abanazar), Sarah Perryman (Princess Yasmina) and Phil Howe (the Emperor).

I was fortunate to witness the first read through of “Aladdin” on 4th October 2009 and can testify that this is going to be a truly magnificent spectacle, the instant rapport between Owen and the cast is electric and the famously close- knit bond in Owen’s pantomimes has formed very quickly. Lloyd Davies’ 2nd year as Dame promises to be fantastic, his natural wit and over the top interpretation of his character is very funny even before his costume is created. The Genie Sule Rimi(recently seen in new BBC Wales drama “Crash”) is played in a laid back Rastafarian manner which audiences will love. For the dads the eye candy is provided by Sammi Broad and Sarah Perryman who are both beautiful in looks as well as in voice. The added humour and seasoned showmanship of Owen Money(His first panto was in Swansea Grand Theatre in 1979!) and the support of the other cast members made this a must see show.

The Giant's cry of 'Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman' is known to every child before it is uttered and sends shivers of excitment throughout the audience. Jack & the Beanstalk is a great opportunity to give your family a festive treat next season. Starring Mike Doyle with a full professional cast it will be the best pantomime in South Wales. Richard Tunley is the Artistic Director for this production.

Cast: Mike Doyle (Jack); Richard Tunley (Fleshcreep); James Caredig (Dame Trott); Ian Phillips (King Crumble); Rhian Griffths (Princess Peach Crumble) and Bethan Thomas (Fairy Fiona).

Mike Doyle heads a stellar cast which starts its run on 18th November and ends in Feb 2010. Officially the longest running Pantomime in the country

The Owen Money Theatre Company presented their annual pantomime “Jack and the Beanstalk” at Port Talbot’s Princess Royal Theatre on January 27th 2010 continuing what is the longest pantomime run in the UK! Again starring arguably  Wales’ premier all round entertainer today, Mike Doyle. He along with  a very talented cast provided a fantastic feast of family entertainment which a very lively and enthusiastic audience appreciated with great generosity. I thought that last years offering would be hard to top, but this year’s is right up there. The diminutive pocket dynamite Rhian Griffith was the perfect love interest for Mike’s character(Jack) and she has an absolutely beautiful voice, which after the long run thus far shows no sign of fatigue. Her rendition of “Doll on a Music Box” has to be heard. She has a clarity to her voice and she is simply a bundle of joy. Richard Tunley as Fleshcreep is brilliantly over the top in his interpretation and is becoming one of Wales great comedy actors. I was fortunate to see him in “Tonto Evans” last year. He is a Welsh Charlie Chaplin. James Ceredig’s debut as a Dame was very good and he interacted well with everyone. Bethan Thomas as the fairy was a highlight and reminded me of the way Miranda Richardson played Queen Elizabeth 1st In Blackadder 2. Ian Phillips completed the principal roles and was a credible and safe King Crumble. The effects were believable and well contrived and the Welsh feel of the panto makes it a must see for all ages. Mike Doyle is so likeable and is now a veteran of pantomime - his first was 22 years ago! This is his third for The Owen Money Theatre Company and Long may he continue. His rich tenor voice on his rendition of “Go The Distance” from the movie “Hercules” is spine tingling. The panto runs until 21st Feb catch it if you can.
