The Chamber Orchestra of Wales is the Principality's foremost chamber orchestra. Equally at home in the studio, on the concert platform or in the orchestra pit, the versatility of this small independent organisation is apparent in the variety of work undertaken - recording sessions, opera, ballet, television, festival appearances, concerts - particularly our famous "candlelight concerts" and childrens'/schools' concerts. The Orchestra is totally independent of public funding and successfully generates its own income through quality professional engagements.
Since its inception, the Orchestra has completed numerous television series for the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and S4C. There have been concerts and televised performances at major venues throughout the country such as the Royal Albert Hall London; The Millennium Centre, Saint David's Hall and the International Arena in Cardiff; the Harrogate International Centre and Venue Cymru in Llandudno. "Classic Spectaculars" and outdoor concerts have become something of a speciality with performances given at venues such as Cardiff Castle, Eastnor Castle, Wimbledon, Wrexham, Bryn Terfel's Faenol Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival with Kathryn Jenkins, Kenilworth Castle and a particularly memorable one in the presence of President Carter of the U.S.A. at Swansea's Singleton Park. The Orchestra has accompanied artists such as David Oistrakh, Bryn Terfel, Sir James Galway, Leslie Garrett, Jason Howard, Charlotte Church, Rebecca Evans and Hayley Westenra. It was an honour to give the world premier in 2009 of Karl Jenkins' "O Beatus Trinitas" conducted by the composer.
In the first few months of 2010 the Chamber Orchestra of Wales visited Llandudno to record a special edition of "Dechrau Canu, Dechrau Canmol" for S4C and then visited the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea to participate in a concert with the X Factor finalist "Rhydian". The Orchestra was delighted to be back at the Brangwyn in May as guests of the Morriston Orpheus Male Voice Choir in a very special 75th annual concert in which the soloist was Grammy winner Rebecca Evans. There were also concerts at the Minster Church in Warminster and a gala concert at Lampeter University as well as the Orchestra's own popular "Candlelight Concerts" with Alwyn Humphreys in Swansea.
The Chamber Orchestra of Wales is honoured to be participating in a number of concerts at this year's National Eisteddfod of Wales
