Mike Sterling
Mike Sterling was born in Glanamman, but was brought up in Swansea. At the age of
seven he realised that he had a talent for singing when he was asked by his parents
to sing at their Hotel and for weddings. Mike has fond memories of seeing Ryan Davies
in Pantomime at Swansea Grand Theatre in the 1970's and being mesmerised by a great
Welsh talent and remembers being devastated when he died in 1977.
His first professional appearance was at The Cwmfelin Social Club in Swansea when
he was just 14 years old. A year later he went for vocal coaching in Neath by the
Welsh tenor Allun Davies -
One of his best experiences however was at his home town Swansea when he appeared
in his one man show at The Grand Theatre in 1996, and singing one of his favourite
songs "Myfanwy" to a packed Welsh theatre just as Ryan had done nearly 20 years
earlier! The show also featured an impromptu duet with Mike and his vocal coach Allun
Davies (who was in the audience) singing the beautiful "Be My Love and Unchained
Melody" -
