Kathryn is a freelance director working in the fields of both drama and musical theatre.
She initially trained alongside her father, the well-known director David Thomas
MBE and then undertook training at Warwick and Loughborough universities, continuing
to develop her skills working alongside various professional directors. Kathryn
directs the Sir Harry Secombe Youth Musical Theatre Trust ,based at the Grand Theatre
and recent productions with this company include Fame, The Wizard of Oz, We Will
Rock You and Summer Holiday. Other recent directing credits with Cocket Operatic
Society include Me and My Girl, Hot Mikado and Jekyll and Hyde. Last year Kathryn,
her mum and sister formed a new company, "Master Act" in memory of her father. The
company’s inaugural production of The Boyfriend was a sell-out and the company intend
to continue to bring small, quality musicals to theatres in Wales. Last year Kathryn
also directed the Grand Theatre production of "Swansea Girls", a new musical by
Lyn Mackay based on the lives of 4 women living in Swansea. In addition she directed
a touring production of The Wales Spectacular Variety Show and Bound for Broadway
at the Grand Theatre for Silver Stage and Screen Productions. Kathryn has extensive
experience as a drama/musical theatre teacher and is employed as a peripatetic teacher
in primary schools for Swansea City Council and Neath and Port Talbot Borough Council.
