Swansea born, Helen Griffin is an Actress, screenwriter and Playwright Brought up
in Treboeth, and who attended Bishop Vaughan School. She initially studied to be
a psychiatric nurse at nursing college alongside comedienne Jo Brand and was a psychiatric
nurse until 1986, until her passion for acting took over. After many theatre performances
and writing the play “Killjoy” for Theatre West Glamorgan (now Theatr Na nog) she
appeared in the Welsh cult classic “Twin Town” in 1997. Her first full length play
“Flesh and Blood” she adapted into the screenplay for the film “Little White Lies”
(filmed on location in Swansea and Cardiff) in which she also starred, winning a
Welsh BAFTA for her performance in 2006. Helen also appeared at The Edinburgh Fringe
festival with Jo Brand in a collaborated play called “Mental”, based on their experiences
as psychiatric nurses. On television she has appeared in “Casualty”, “Gavin And Stacey”,
“Dr Who”, “Satellite City” and has written for “No Angels”, “Where The Heart Is”
and the short lived “Night And Day” and is in great demand as a theatre actress,
and writer.
